Audi has announced the upcoming 2015 Audi A3 sedan, stating that the vehicle will hit showrooms in Q1 of 2014, offering entry-level luxury features with a variety of powertrain options wrapped up in a sleek-yet-reserved body style. While no pricing information has been given on this third-generation A3, we’ve got a rundown of its specs, as well as a gallery, after the break.

When the next A3 arrives early next year (in the first quarter of 2014 as a 2015 model), Audi will no longer be playing around. Specifically to please American and Chinese car shoppers, the third-generation model adds a sedan body style to our previously hatchback-only A3 lineup. We still will get a hatchback in the form of the five-door Sportback, although only the e-tron plug-in hybrid version has been confirmed for America.

Any doubts about growth in the premium compact segment were quashed at the 2013 New York Auto Show as Audi unveiled the all-new A3 sedan, a fresh take on the German automaker’s presence in the segment. The A3 hatchback will remain in the U.S. market as a plug-in gasoline-electric hybrid, a production version of the A3 Sportback e-tron that debuted at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show.

The 2015 Audi A3 sedans are to go on sale in early 2014, with the Sportback plug-in hybrid arriving in late 2014. Pricing for the A3 and S3 will be announced closer to their launch, but we expect the A3′s starting price to come in just under $30,000.

Powertrain 2015 Audi A3
The base 2015 Audi A3 will offer the 1.8-liter TFSI engine, which rates at 170 horsepower and sends drive to the front wheels only. Next in line is the 2.0-liter TDI, which rates at a lower 150 horsepower but should have a healthy torque rating.

The A3 e-tron Plug-In Hybrid features a 1.4-liter TFSI engine paired with an electric motor and delivers the aforementioned 204-horsepower peak rating.

At the top of the ladder is the 2.0-liter TFSI, which will be offered in the A3 quattro and sporty S3 all-wheel-drive models. Audi hasn’t released figures for this engine, but overseas it outputs as much as 300 horsepower.

All 2015 Audi A3 models will come standard with a six-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission. They also get Audi’s new ‘drive select’ function that allows the driver to adjust throttle response, shift points, and the electronic power steering. Similar to other Audi models, Audi drive select has four settings that include Auto, Dynamic, Comfort and Individual.

2015 Audi A3 Interior and Exterior

Every car company claims to set the standard for everyone else, but the 2015 Audi A3 will carry the family nose into this space, plus an interior that’s like a Manhattan walk-up taste of the A8′s mansion of awesome. Audi touts standard leather, the latest LED bedazzling, and tech like the latest-generation of MMI with a 7″ screen driven by an NVIDIA Tegra graphics processor, apparently a big deal if you’re into cars that are like tablets. Audi has made much of its WiFi and app integration, so the car really is like a German iPad with a very elaborate car-shaped carrying case.

Inside, this entry-level luxury interior offers a wrap-around dash design, which Audi refers to as the vehicle’s defining element. Interior lighting includes cool white LEDs that surrounds door panels, cupholders, the center console, and more. Audi America’s President Scott Keogh said: “The 2015 Audi A3 will set the new benchmark among entry-level luxury sedans. This A3 line-up redefines the standards of its class in dynamics, efficiency, technology, craftsmanship and performance.”

2015 Audi A3 Features and Safety
In addition to 7 standard air bags, the new 2015 Audi A3 models are equipped with Audi Pre-Sense Basic technology, which identifies when a collision may be imminent and prepares the cabin and its occupants for an impact. Furthermore, the A3′s braking system is designed to limit secondary collisions following a primary impact, the manufacturer says. Audi Side Assist, a blind-spot monitoring system, and Audi Active Lane Assist, a lane-departure warning and keeping system, are optional.
