The camouflaged coupe – expected to be known as the 2014 BMW M4 Coupe – has been spotted cutting some development laps on the hallowed Nurburgring. The regular 4 Series Coupe has been spied without camouflage in recent months, offering fans an idea of what to expect with the M4.
Of course, the cars won’t be identical: we can expect the M4 to get a wider track under fattened guards, while unique bumpers and aero components will feature at both ends. The forthcoming debut of the M4 won’t spell the end of the M3 however, with a top-shelf M-tuned twin to the Coupe expected to top the 3 Series Sedan line-up.

2014 BMW M4 Coupe Powertrain
VIN information uncovered on the web indicates the M4 will get its power from a 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine coded S55. That makes it sound very much like a high-performance derivative of the N55, BMW’s twin-scroll turbo engine used in the 335i among others.
Power should be good at about 416 horsepower, on par with the current M3 coupe’s output–but likely with much more area under the curve; that is to say: more torque. Torque is good.
Previous unconfirmed reports have suggested output of the new M six-cylinder to be at about 450 horsepower, courtesy of 3.3 liters of displacement and two–or possibly three–turbochargers. That’s seeming less likely as production draws nearer.
2014 BMW M4 Coupe Exterior and Interior
These latest spy photos with the BMW M4 Coupe (F82) partially reveal the finished design of the headlamps and taillights. Up until now prototypes had been equipped with fabricated units.
Various weight-saving measures like aluminum hood, boot lid and doors, along with a CFRP roof and optional ceramic brakes will make the car significantly lighter than the current M3 Coupe which has a curb weight of 3,704 lbs (1,680 kg).
